MetaMask is one of the most widely-used crypto wallets, the MetaMask Wallet website boasts of over 21 million users worldwide. As a crypto wallet, its purpose is to store cryptos, specifically Ethereum and ERC-20 based tokens.
This wallet is available as a Browser extension and can be used to interact with various blockchain dApps. You can trade, swap, stake, and interact with Secret Network.
MetaMask is free, secure, trusted, and very useful. It is also a requirement when using Secret Bridge. A necessary step for some users that need to get their hands on $sSCRT in order to mint Secret NFTs.

As we outlined in this guide about Secret Bridge, MetaMask Wallet is needed if you want to bridge Ethereum (or ERC-20 tokens) and BNB (or BEP-20 tokens) to the Secret Network. Following the process outlined in that guide, you will end up with secret version of e.g. ETH = secretETH (sETH), or BNB = secretBNB (sETH). These privacy tokens can then be used to swap for secretSCRT (sSCRT), which is used when minting Secret NFTs.
$sETH or $sBNB on its own cannot be used to mint, you need $sSCRT.
Without MetaMask Wallet, you will not be able to interact with the Secret Bridge dApp.

When you click on the MetaMask Wallet extension, you will be prompted in a new tab, to create a MetaMask Wallet account - click "Get Started".
You are presented with two options:
In this case, unless you already have an account, click "Create a Wallet", then follow the prompted steps in the account creation process.
Remember to store your secret recovery key safely (and never share it with anyone, ever).
Confirm the completion of your MetaMask Wallet account.

The secret recovery phrase is what is the same as what is often referred to as a mnemonic key or seed phrase. It is a 12-word phrase that is essentially a master-key. This can be used to recover your account in case you lose your primary device, or you forgot your password.
Just as with any seed phrase or mnemonic key, you should never save it plainly on your device, or take a screenshot of it. You should never, ever, share your secret recovery phrase with anyone. The best way of saving your "master-key" is by either save it in a password manager, on a piece of paper in a bank vault, piece of paper in a safe-deposit box. Or the cost-free way of doing it, write down your seed phrase on different papers and then store the pieces in multiple secret places.
